I (Erica) just talked to my mom and she had lots of good news to share.
The Lyrica is working great. Katrina's jaw pain is continuing to get better. Her doctor is increasing her dose of that medication a little bit since she is responding so well. That is a huge blessing after she was taken off of her IV pain meds. She was actually able to drink an 8 ounce milk shake this morning. That sounds like a good breakfast to me :) Katrina likes to blame me for her love of ice cream so I hope she was thinking of me when she drank it. The encouraging thing about her being able to have a shake is that cold usually really hurts her jaw. She did let it sit for a while so it wasn't ice cold, but it was cool.
Katrina also had a fun visitor this morning. One of Louis's good friends Johnny who lives in San Fransisco was in Austin and drove to Houston to see them. I know it was a huge encouragement for both Katrina and Louis. He only got to stay a couple of hours but it meant so much to see him.
The third exciting thing that happened this morning is Katrina went on a walk. It was just around the nurses station and she had to wear a mask but she got out of her room. If she can walk a little bit each day it should really help with the leg pain she is having.
Please continue to pray for her jaw pain. We had been hopeful that the jaw pain would be gone by now since it seems like the chemo is working. Pray that she does not get discouraged because it is not working as fast as we had hoped. We praise the Father that her kidneys continue to improve every day and are pretty much back to normal now. Her liver function is great too! Please pray that Katrina will be able to eat more food and that she would get the nutrition she needs for her body to heal. Pray that my mom and Louis would stay healthy! Katrina is very susceptible to viruses and infection right now since her white blood cell count is so low. Also, please pray for peace and comfort for both Katrina and my dad Steve since he will be coming home to California tomorrow. They have a very close relationship and being apart is going to be hard for both of them.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of all compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can we can comfort those in trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

Love,
Julia Laigaie
In the short 6 weeks Julia was with you, you made her feel special, confident and smart! We can never thank you enough for giving her a positive kindergarten experience! Her complete outlook is different and it is because of the very special person that you are! We are praying for a much more comfortable healing process for you and that your family know that the world also knows how amazing you are!!!

So glad to hear your kidneys are functioning normal and the jaw pain is subsiding. You are in our family's prayers!
ReplyDeleteWe are all so happy that some things are improving for you, Katrina, and greetings from all of your Norwegian relatives in the Midwest. Some lefse would be soft and taste great...
ReplyDeletePsalm 121:
I lift my eyes to the hills--
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip--
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you--
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm--
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Katrina,
ReplyDeleteI just found out about all this a few days ago. Know that I and a bunch of kids in Niger are praying for you. You have a beautiful spirit, Katrina. I pray that you will soon be healed and be back to teaching. I love reading the comments made by your students/parents. It is obvious that they love you. May God give you rest and comfortableness today.
