Renal doctor's input

Katrina had a visit late this morning from Dr. Sani a renal specialist. He seems to think that she is dealing with tumor lysis syndrome, which isn't uncommon when undergoing chemo for leukemia. Most likely this is caused by the drugs killing the blood cells and toxins being filtered through the kidneys and acute kidney dysfunction. She has been retaining a lot of fluid because of this and a catheter put in to help empty her bladder. They will keep a close eye on her blood chemistry and take steps to help get rid of the fluid buildup. They also have her on antibiotics and antifungal medications to make sure she doesn't get pneumonia because of the fluid retention which includes some in and around her lungs. This afternoon she went down for a kidney ultrasound to make sure there isn't anything going on. Her last dose of the second major chemo drug was delayed until late this afternoon instead of 1pm. It is in progress now and then the next 2 drugs will be given in another 12 hours which would finish the first cycle. The preliminary spinal fluid pathology report was negative (praise God). We just want to praise the "God of all comfort" who is walking with us through this, every step of the way.

  9. Dear Ones,

    Romajean and I as well as our family are praying continually each day for each of you. Katrina, please know I pray earnestly for that pain to stop/leave and that the Lord will comfort you daily until it does so. I wish I could take it from you and give you relief. However we know the Lord is doing a better job than I…LOL! (But I would)

    We also send much love to you all and have been sending this out to our family and friends.

    Agape,
    Art

  12. Katrina, Louis, Steve and Lori,

    We are praying diligently for all of you and especially for Katrina's complete healing. A.W. Tozer said " Trust God in the dark, until the Light returns. " We serve a soveriegn God, as you well know, and you are in His hands as you walk this trial. Joshua 1:3 " i will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised " You are His! We love you and care deeply.

  13. THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

    The Lord is my shepherd,
    I shall not want;
    He makes me lie down in green pastures.
    He leads me beside still waters;
    He restores my soul.
    He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for His name's sake.

    Even though I walk through the valley
    of the shadow of death,
    I fear no evil;
    for You are with me;
    Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

    Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
    all the days of my life;
    and I shall dwell in the house of the
    Lord forever.

    Psalm 23

    May the Lord be with you Mrs. Yang today & everyday as you fighting this battle. I pray He will relieve you from these discomfort & your body will be healed.

  15. So glad you started this blog. My husband is a friend of Micah's and the Newmans are close family friends. We are lifting your healing up in prayer.
    So do not throw away your confidence;
    it will be richly rewarded.
    You need to persevere so that when
    you have done the will of God,
    you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10

  16. Hey Katrina, I wanted you to know that we have been praying for you. God can do beautiful things when we least expect it. Some of that beauty can be seen in this blog. I love you all very much. I still have a picture of you in that giant gingerbread costume in Willy Wonka. Pretty funny, I can still remember when you asked if you and Blythe could do it and how excited you were. Dancing Gingerbread, it sure made me smile. I hope the memory brings a smile to your face too!
    Remember "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." It has helped me through lots of rough roads. Love and prayers to you all Bethany
