Yesterday afternoon Katrina's blood pressure got high. Lori called the hospital with her concern and after several minutes they asked us to go to the emergency care.
Arrival time: Just a bit after 6 PM.
After a good while they decided to give her some magnesium sulfate since her electrolytes were down via IV. 100 mL of it at 25 mL/hour. The math being done would equate it to a 4 hour drip.
During those 4 hours, however, her heartrate got pretty high. Her heartrate has been high this week, but we were very concerned with it. The nurse practitioner came in after the IV and checked her out. She made it seem like they were also suppose to give her a drug to lower her BP and HR.
Well, they didn't, so they had to get that and then they wanted to keep her to make sure it was okay. We went ahead and were able to run her nightly IV antibiotic while we waited.
Needless to say we weren't discharged till close to 4 AM.
I know that they need to be careful and have several different important things to do; however, this was very trying. This was indeed quite a test of patience and I failed.

I would have failed right along with you so you are not alone! Praying that is the last ER trip you will have to endure along this process. You are all in my prayers daily.

Louis, you didn't fail. You've been amazing, and you are dealing with so much. Being a care giver is a very very trying role. Don't forget to take some time out and take care of yourself, and the same goes for Lori. Neither of you will be any good for Katrina if you get run down or burned out.
ReplyDeleteER's seem inefficient, not matter why you are there, or which ER you go to. You're probably functioning on very little sleep and I bet your nerves are fried. Don't think you failed, you are strong and courageous. You have the love and support of so many!
Maybe a nice long game of Mario Kart would help? (That's Kadin's prescription for you today!)
Tons of love to you all,
Shannon Poole
Please don't be so hard on yourself, Louis. It is very understandable to be upset about their oversight...especially because you care so deeply about Katrina and want her to have the best of care, etc.
ReplyDeleteYou guys have all been through so much and are tired, stressed, and maxed out. Like the previous post said, you and Lori need to also take care of yourselves in order to be there for Katrina. Please let us all know if there is anything we can do to help out. You all have many friends that are more than willing to lend a hand.
I hope you are all managing a little rest today after your ordeal last night.
God bless you all,
Ann

ReplyDeleteLouis, you are amazing and I am touched by your honesty...thank you for taking such good care of Katrina! We love you!
Warmly,
Wendy
God bless you all this week. Stay strong.

Louis, don't ever feel like you've failed. You are being so strong for Katrina (a lot stronger than most husbands could be). You are doing such a great job...and we're praying for you just as much as we're praying for her. As I've said a million times, please let us know if there is ANYTHING we can do for you....hire maids to clean your house, cook dinner, mow your grass, shine your shoes, whatever! We love you and are here for you!!!
