"I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise...At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws...The earth is filled with your love O Lord; teach me your decrees." Psalm 119:58-64 selections
When the achy bones/ uneasy abdominal symptoms kept Katrina awake last night, we read through the Scripture verses then we started reading from the treasures of Psalm 119, a special meditation on the Word of God. I am not sure when she fell asleep but we'll continue on in this favorite chapter today. Maybe some of you would enjoy reading it today along with us.
The sun is shining in Houston this AM- another lovely day. As Louis and Katrina had some time to spend together and walk the halls yesterday (and as Louis wrote yesterday it wasn't the best day ever due to fatigue and body aches), I got to walk outside and show his mom, Kelly, some of the grounds of this amazing complex. We appreciated her coming to visit Katrina and I benefited as she remembered I love green tea and brought me some tea bags:)
Dr. Estrov was in bright and early this AM as is his custom. He greets Katrina with the expectation that she is doing well and ends their visit with a high-5. We continue to appreciate his medical expertise! He brought good news this AM. The abdominal x-ray that Katrina had done yesterday shows improvement. The first two looked the same. She will continue on clear liquids today until we hear from the GI specialists and see what their recommendation is. He said they will continue to adjust her meds to see what is needed for discharge. We were all over the word discharge!!! Asking him what he is thinking, this doctor who is so definative in his answers, said, Oh, maybe Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday. We are happy to hear the end of her first hospital stay has a clearer end in sight. The answer also kind of made us chuckle as we discussed what we were told this AM. The other thing that Katrina picked up on with her typical sense of humor was that after the doctor asked her about her jaw pain/numbness, he turned to the doctor with him who we had not seen before and stated "for MOST people the jaw pain goes away immediately (with chemo treatment), in some cases it lasts for weeks" Would you know, she is in the "some cases" category- and again taking it in stride. This is what her situation is. She has a bone marrow scheduled tomorrow. Dr. Estrov stated, "She will be in remission" Will you pray today that is prophetic and the bone marrow will show she is in remission?! That is our prayer. They are changing her antibiotics again according to what the blood cultures are showing and will start on Tobramycin.
We have been on a walk, Katrina is resting now and waiting for Louis to come and spend the day. He will be out of church about now. So glad he can connect with their wonderfully supportive friends at Bear Creek Baptist this AM before heading to the Cancer Center.
One of the GI doctors just came in and examined and spoke with Katrina. He said they are seeing baby steps forward and will continue to monitor her clinically. Pray no procedures will be needed but that these GI problems will continue to resolve themselves as they anticipate.
Enjoy a nice Sunday. Thank you for caring and praying. Lori

Good afternoon Katrina!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day God has made! We are continually praying for you as you face each new day. Praying for remission and that you get to come home for Spring Break!!
Yesterday we took Landri and her sister to the live stock show and rodeo. We all rode the ferris wheel, when we got to the top over looking Houston and the Medical Center we all waved and shouted "Hi Mrs.Yang!"
Get some rest and have a wonderful day.
Continually praying,
Angie Robinson
Lori and Katrina and Louis,
ReplyDeleteLori, you don't know me...but Katrina does very well! I am so thankful that you can be there with Katrina. As a Mom, this has to be so hard, but God has given you a very special daughter and a very special time to be together, even though we would love to have it be under different circumstances. I have laughed and cried at your postings. It is such a privilege to be able to lift you all in prayer each and every day. Thank you for telling us how we can specifically pray for Katrina.
As a fellow kindergarten teacher, tell Katrina that each day I think of her as we sing Dr. Jean's "We had a good day" song! She can explain the significance of it all when she feels up to it!
We're praying for remission and for the dismissal so that Katrina can be home and sleep in her own bed! We serve a great God!
Shelly
Like mother, like daughter, I was thinking of you today Katrina! Our series at church is on the book of Philippians and being "More than Happy." This week we talked about joy in suffering and I couldn't help but think of you. The pastor spoke of Paul and his ministry even while in chains, and they had a woman share about her ministry to another woman while they had breast cancer. I KNOW your story is being shared by SO many and I know God is using this to reach so many people you may never know. So it's neat to know God is using you now even in the midst of your own personal "chains."
ReplyDeleteLove you lots! I'll be praying with expectancy that you will be in remission!

"As for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior, my God will hear me." -Micah 7:7
ReplyDeleteDischarge, remission, with confidence I pray for you...YOU ARE HIS BELOVED...
Warmly,
Wendy
