Wednesday March 3

Katrina had another lumbar puncture today for another spinal fluid analysis and to give the 2nd intrathecal (spinal column injection) chemo drug (cytarabine). She did well and is now sitting up in bed. Yesterday they put her on a continuous lasix(diuretic) infusion along with an albumen infusion (which helps pull fluid from the tissues). She has be peeing like a race horse and fortunately has the catheter in so that she doesn't have to keep getting up to go to the bathroom. So much for the details, all this means that she is getting rid of a lot of the fluid retention and feels a lot more comfortable. Most of her blood chemistry issues are a improving. All the staff here, the doctors, nurses, clinical pharmacists, everyone has been just wonderful and really have stayed on top of whats going on with Katrina. She actually has felt like eating a little more and just ordered a hamburger for lunch. Last night at dinner was the first real solid food she has had in days because of the jaw pain she has been having. That seems to be improving also. God's grace and goodness have been abundant the past few days as we have been blessed by your prayers, cards, scripture verses, and comments on the blog and what a great encouragement that has been to all of us. Deuteronomy 31:8

For Katrina and all of us/Steve

  1. Has Katrina been able to finish with her first round of chemo? Or are the kidney levels still not at an acceptable level for that..? Kristin

No, this isn't my only wish or prayer, but it's one thing I've been wanting you to be able to do. Just sorry it wasn't the In and Our Burger you have been craving, Katrina!

  7. Yay!! Ok, you need a special treat for all you have been through. How about a McDonalds cheesburger? Just kidding! What you really need is Whataburger ketsup. Chelsea can bring it!

  8. Katrina,

Campbell is missing you terribly. I told him he can send you an email - you know him - doesn't want to actually write! Here it is:

    Dear M rs. Yang,

I hope you get better soon. I really miss you. I came in 4th place at the cup stacking tournament. I can't wait to show you my medal! I am having a good time with Mrs. Melzar. We are all trying to be good for her so you will be proud of us. I have been praying for you to get well soon.

    Love,
    Campbell

  11. Such great news, although had a very hard time understanding all the big terminology so thanks for clarifying. When I picked Trip up today from school he said he has been trying to be so good for Ms. Melzar because he wants you to be so proud of him. He misses you so much and wants you to start feeling better very soon. He was telling me that he knows that it just isn't any fun not feeling well. So this last entry got me so excited to tell him that you are not feeling as much pain. We got a big WooooHoooo out of him for that one. We are continuing to pray for good news and for the Lord to be recognized and glorified through all of this.

    With continued prayer,

    Jacque and Trip Hardy

  12. For those of you who are wondering, Katrina won't be able to finish her first round of chemo until her kidney function is completely back to normal. The doctors are hoping to see a huge improvement by tomorrow. :)

  16. I have been thinking of you and praying for you so often! Throughout the day today I kept coming to the computer to check for an update, and so pleased to read now you are getting rid of a lot of the fluid and up for a hamburger, Praises!!!

I just shared with Landri that you are feeling better today and she says, "I miss you, and I told some of our friends to pray for you, and I love you and I know God is going to make you feel all better."

We are praying you have a restful night!
    Love,

  18. What a wonderful update - praise God! He is so merciful & good - He hears our prayers and answers them so faithfully! And a hamburger to boot - it doesn't get much better than that! We miss you so much, but know you are in good hands with the fabulous doctors and nurses at M.D. Anderson.

Grace really misses you. She asks me almost every day, "will Mrs. Yang be back today?" And I keep explaining that it will be a little while longer. Too bad 5-6 year olds don't have a real concept of time (lol)! This week-end she carried around the class picutre a lot, and when she wasn't carrying it around she was staring at it on the fridge. I think she likes seeing your beautiful smiling face.

Here in a little note from Grace:

    Dear Mrs. Yang,
I'm glad you are feeling better. I miss you. We have been saying prayers for you at night. Love, Grace

I hope you have a restful night and just know that you are thought of & prayed for often AND loved like crazy!

    In His Precious Name,
    Dawn

  20. I just wanted to share a little story: Today David had given Kadin some money he had left over after getting gas. Apparently at school the classes are having a little contest to see who can raise more money for Olive Garden's Pasta for Pennies for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!
He put all the money he had in his little pockets in that jar...and he said it was for "his most favorite babysitter ever who is very sick in the hospital right now."
We all love you darling and are so thankful to hear you are having a little relief today. Let's hope that darn illness has realized it's messing with the wrong girl!

  24. Katrina,

Glad to hear you are getting your apetite back. Luke has been testing Ms. Melzar's buttons :-) but did you expect anything different from my child?? He misses you so much, and at night he always asks how much longer will you be gone. We all think about you daily and we pray for your and your family's strength.

    with much love,

  26. Hi Sweet Katrina and her family,
You are all on my heart and in my prayers this morning. It is Rich's birthday today! As I rejoice in his birth, I also rejoice that you are a part of our lives. We love you all and are thankful that Katrina's is in such a specialized facility and pray that she feels comfortable today. We are praying for her complete healing!

  27. So glad to hear the fluid retention is improving! I know it's not the same, but I had some similiar issues after I had Caroline and will never forget the relief I felt in seeing that FULL catheter (sp?) bag! You're probably rolling your eyes that we're even talking about this, but God is a God of details, right? :) Also, so glad to hear about the hamburger. Perhaps you're about ready to move on to pizza rolls & some sherbert?

Praying this verse for you today:
"Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him." ~Psalm 126:5-6

Today Rich and I are going to the courthouse because our friends are adopting twins. Neena got a new dress with matching purple shoes!
I am praying for you, Katrina, and am sorry the hamburger didn't work out. I am trusting in God's plan and looking forward to when I can see you :)
