"But our citizenship is in heaven and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body." Philippians 3:20-21
Our morning was so nice. We had a 9:30AM appointment in Katy, where Katrina and Louis live, for Katrina's blood labs to be drawn. It took maybe 15 or 20 minutes to get there. The parking is easy (and free). The walk from the parking lot is closer than walking into the Houston Cancer Center and to the elevator- we had fun with comparisons this AM. Truly we are more than thankful for Katrina to be a patient at MD Anderson where she is getting extraordinary care and exceptional medical treatment, it is just a long way, so big and we both are drained at the end of the day. So this is going to be a great option in between chemo treatments and hospitalizations where we can go maybe twice a week for labs. Dr. Hsu spent a lot of time with her today. He had kept up with her progress since he referred her to MD Anderson, but asked all about her chemo, how she is doing, how her husband is doing, etc. Her blood results showed her hemoglobin to be a bit lower today and he will carefully watch to see if she needs blood after Friday's results come back. Her platelets have gone up since getting a platelet infusion 2 days ago but still low and he will watch that too. Please pray that the platelet count goes up soon, it needs to be greater than 80 (it is currently 47) for Katrina to be admitted for course 3 on the 19th. Her WBC count is up in the normal range, but her Absolute Neutrophil Count is still kind of low- so no crowds for her and she still needs to wear a mask when out or having visitors. Her blood pressure still is good so please pray that holds.
After having some lunch today we went out for a walk- longest ever- around her whole block/neighborhood. She is getting so much stronger. We are enjoying the nice days as I understand summer weather is just around the corner here in Houston:)

I love getting these updates! Thank you so much for keeping us informed as to how the treatment is going and how Katrina is doing. I'm glad that you are able to reduce your commute time for a few visits. It does make a huge difference in your energy level to have to sit in traffic going down to MD Anderson and back so often.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you're getting stronger, kiddo! Keep up your hard work and wonderful fighting spirit!
Miss you tons,
Amy
What great news today, to know you can continue your care more closely to home, and not have to "fight" Houston traffic so often!
ReplyDeletePraying that your platelet count goes up and that your blood pressure continues to stay as is.
Landri told me yesterday that you were on the phone with Mrs. Barfass and you got to hear how quiet they were all being during math tubs, she thought that was really neat!
I love reading the updates and hearing that you are getting stronger and stronger everyday, I have friends, family and Steven's employees and clients asking about you all the time! Your prayer warriors are always at work. :)
Have a wonderful, restful evening,
Angie Robinson
I am so excited that you are able to "check-in" MUCH closer to home and not have your whole day taken up by driving! Keep enjoying the weather and those walks...I've been doing the same thing.

It's so nice to hear such a sunny post on such a sunny day. Finally, in Southern CA we have some weather to suit our reputation. Don't get too excited, it's supposed to rain again by the weekend. We'll take what we can get.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the fight, and now that you can do your follow-ups closer to home, you'll have more time to grow stronger and stronger.
Curious if Steve has been able to come back to visit? I know it mush be so hard to be separated from him, Lori. I don't even like when David goes away for one week at a time on business. Your care-giving prowess is awe inspiring. Labors of love seem so obvious, don't they?
Love and hugs (not the germy kind) to everyone!!

Hi Friend! I am so glad that some of your visits will be closer to home! I imagine that with all of the driving, waiting, waiting, waiting, and driving you've been doing that this is an awesome improvement!
ReplyDeleteI saw your sister, Micah, and Clara yesterday...Ian rode with Micah home on their tandem bike!
Lsst night Rich and I played cards with the kids. Neena always wants to play Skip Bo because it reminds her of you :)
WE LOVE YOU!
Warmly,
Wendy
