"My hope comes from Him."
Psalm 62:5
In the ups and downs of going through chemo, today was a down day. At risk of sounding too negative, this post is what is real to me right now...
We had to go to MD Anderson for my out-patient chemo and the day started out very early (up at 6:00 am). I was a bit nauseous this morning, which is not unusual with the chemo. I went to get my blood work done and the girl said that she was going to have to stick me for one of the tests (they have NEVER had to do this before). I told her they always got the blood from my line and she was not convinced so I let her stick me... my mistake! Bear in mind I have hard veins to find, but this girl busted a vein in my hand and kept moving the needle around! As I was near tears she had to stop and still did not have the blood she needed for my labs so she had to use my line anyway. All of this made my nausea worse and then I started to get light-headed waiting to get my vitals taken so I had to go sit down again. Thankfully two sweet nurses that have seen me before noticed that I was having a hard time. They brought me back to an exam room to lay down and even brought my Neulasta shot to me so I didn't have to go to another waiting room. Since all the doctors were at a conference that day things were slow and they let me rest there until my lumbar puncture appointment. We were very thankful for their kindness and compassion when I was feeling awful. Later we went to my lumbar puncture and unfortunately that went about as well as my morning. The lumbar punctures are really difficult for me to begin with, but this one was very painful. I am already incredibly sore and am not looking forward to tomorrow. Please pray that I will recover quickly from my procedures today and for health as my white count continues to drop the next couple days.

ReplyDeleteI was so sad reading this post and knowing you had such a rough day! I will pray that your hand would heal quickly and that the soreness from your lumbar puncture go away right now.
I hope today is a better one for you. You will be in my prayers today, as always.
Love,
Nancy Beyenhof
I'm so sorry, friend. My heart hearts for you this morning. Praying that the rest of this week allows for a great deal of good rest and that your pain would subside right away. May you sense the presence of the Spirit today and rest in Him.
ReplyDeleteOn an entirely different note, Dan & I met a new couple from our church last night that went to Dordt. How weird. I was sure to wear my "friends don't let friends go to Dordt" shirt for the occassion, however :)
love you,
Kali
Katrina...I'm sorry to hear about the difficult day, but glad that you shared it. No one expects you to be "up" all the time and only sharing positive comments!! Reality is that so much of this journey of Chemo STINKS! We understand the ups and downs of emotions that surely must go with it.
ReplyDeleteYou are an amazing girl, Trina! I'll be praying for a quick recovery from this course and that number 6 will be uneventful!
"Lord, when doubts fill my mind, when my heart is in turmoil, quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer." (I love that version from the Living Bible)
Love you....Jodi
I was so sorry to hear that old Mr. Nausea had to come for a visit and that your Monday trip to the hospital wasn't one of the best, to say the least! Hopefully you are doing better today and that you will be laughing and smiling again. Take care and let me know when you are up to some company!
ReplyDeleteI was sad to read this post. I hope today was better than you expected. I hope you had a good visit with your Sampson parents and liked your slideshow!
ReplyDeletePsalm 20:1-5
May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;May He send you help from the sanctuary,And strengthen you out of Zion; May He remember all your offerings, And accept your burnt sacrifice.May He grant you according to your heart's desire, And fulfill all your purpose. We will rejoice in your salvation, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.
Love,
Jamie
I wish we could always control who our caregivers are, but maybe someone needed the workers who are usually by your side.
ReplyDeleteLift high the cross;
the love of Christ proclaim,
that all the world
adore His Sacred Name.
May you have peace and healing this day, Katrina. God bless.

Dear Sweet Katrina,
ReplyDeleteToday I read, "Action, not words, is the bet witness that faith can have." I am so thankful for the watchful and caring eyes of those two nurses on Monday morning.
