Admission Day

"Because he loves me,' says the Lord, "I will rescue him, I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."
-Psalm 91:14-16

Yesterday morning was quick and easy (other than the traffic due to the rain, thankfully we had planned to leave early from home). I got in to do my blood work right after checking in and was in to see my doctor around 9:30 when my appointment wasn't until 11:00! My platelets were up to 88 so I was able to be admitted. My nurse said that Thursdays were slower days so it wouldn't be too long to get my orders, we all thought yeah right, but he was! At 11:00 I had orders and was off to admissions. I had gone down earlier to request 12th floor so when I checked in the admissions worker had a smile and told me I had a room on 12, but the patient was still in the room so it would be a wait. She was right... we didn't get into my room until after 7:00. The most disappointing thing was my doctor wrote in my orders that I needed 4 hours of IV fluids before my chemo was started... this put chemo back to 1:00-1:15 am which meant Monday could not be considered Day 1. Well, turns out my chemo didn't even get up here until after 3:00 am so we are a lot further behind than I wanted to be, but there were a few other leukemia patients waiting in admissions later in the day that were sent home yesterday because there were no rooms so I am thankful for a 3:00 am chemo start!

Today I will have my lumbar puncture and after my last one going so badly, I have had a lot of anxiety about it (to the point where I have been losing sleep). It is important that I be able to relax during the procedure so your prayers would be appreciated. I do however, get to have Sheena (one of my Advance Practice Nurses from before) come up from 10th floor to do it. She has done 3 of mine and they have been the best ones that I have had so I am thankfully she is willing to come up from another floor to do it for me. The people that work here are so wonderful!

  2. I am so glad you got the 12th floor...I prayed for that specifically last night :) I'm praying for a smooth procedure, too!

    Love you, Beano...

  3. Praising the Lord that you are on the 12th floor and that Sheena will be coming! Try your best to relax by thinking happy thoughts. I would tell you to think of your crazy team members to take your mind off of the procedure, but then you might start laughing and really mess it up! :) Please know that we love you and can't wait until you are back!

Be strong in the Lord, Katrina. God bless you.
