official "day one"

Psalm 27:13-14, "I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."

First of all, we want to thank Wendy Humes for organizing the blood drive on Katrina's behalf in Temecula, CA yesterday. Thanks to all who came and donated blood. You gave a wonderful gift!
Katrina got chemo through the night and all day today. Although she started getting the first chemo late last night they consider that "day 0" and today is day 1 of treatment. All has gone well so far. Her second chemo drug runs for 24 hours and will be done at 7:00 in the AM- then they give her another drug to take that one out of her system. Her blood counts were all good today but will begin to drop over the next week as the chemo works. She was to have a lumbar puncture tomorrow with the chemo infusion into her spine, but was given the choice to have it early this afternoon by a APN who has done one of her LP's before so Katrina opted to "get it over with". It went smoothly and efficiently so we are very thankful. No headaches- praise God for that. I did make a Starbucks run (or walk) this afternoon so she could have the caffeine which can help. This week they have a 1/2 price afternoon happy hour:)
Today Kim was her nurse who we always enjoy and Saji is her sweet nurse again tonight. The 12 hour shifts are nice as she has just 2 nurses a day and that makes for great consistency for the patient. Her floor doctor is Dr. Verma who has seen her on an inpatient basis before. Since things are going well, he is in and out once a day, but certainly available to answer any questions we have as he follows her progress and evaluates it.
Thanks to all who prayed that Katrina would have a room back on 12SW. It is never a given in this very busy cancer center, but it's a huge blessing to be back on this unit! Please pray she tolerates the chemo well and it works to kill every cancer cell, for her to not experience complications and to keep her eyes on Jesus. Lori

  1. Psalm 23:1-2
    "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
    he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he restores my soul."

    God bless you, Katrina, as you have your next
    treatment. We pray for healing.

  3. I've been keeping up, even though I haven't said much lately! Just wanted you to know I'm still praying. Here are a few verses I'm praying today from Isaiah 43:

    But now, this is what the LORD says—
    he who created you, O Jacob,
    he who formed you, O Israel:
    "Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
    I have called you by name; you are mine.
    When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
    and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you."

    May He be extra close to you today. Also, God bless Starbucks happy hour!

    love you,
    Kali

  4. We are still following your blog and praying for you. It is always nice to hear the successes and praise reports.

    Matthew 11:28 - Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

    I know you have had a long fight already and there must be many others on your floor experiencing weariness and burdens.

    Love,
    Tom & Janice

  6. Hey sweet girl! Everyone here at Wolfe is keeping you and your family in prayers. Steve said a special one the other night for you as you have been on my heart and in my thoughts so much. School is driving me so crazy I don't have time to breathe, but do know that I love you and we are praying mightily!
    Love,
    Nancy (and Steve) McMillan
