At Home!!

"And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:19
Katrina is home! Course #4 chemo is done:) It is so nice to be at the half-way point in her treatment for her Burkitts leukemia. It is great to be on this side of the count-down. Katrina has 8 courses of chemo so each course now will seem so much closer to completion and getting back to what she loves to do- teaching children and enjoying friends & life in Texas.
Yesterday was a little different than she thought it would be. Her lumbar puncture with the chemo infusion was done late morning and it went quickly and smoothly. She requested a nurse who had done it twice before and Sheena was happy to come to the floor and do that procedure for Katrina. And no headaches this time for which we are thankful! Next she was seen by two endocrine doctors who examined her and decided the nodule in her thyroid was something that could be evaluated after she is done with her chemo treatments. They will schedule her for an ultrasound early fall with a biopsy but sounded promising as far as not needing to be concerned. Her nurse, Christina, then started her last dose of Rituximab. She had this drug each course for the first 4 courses so from now on that will be one less drug each round. We're wondering if it can cut down on time in the hospital?? Maybe coming home after 4 days? That would be great! She got her Neulasta injection to stimulate her white blood cell production and Louis had the car all packed for the drive home. We got home about 9 PM. She came home with IV antibiotics which run 3 times a day so that ties us down a bit for the first week but that is the time she'll need more rest and her counts will be recovering.
Thanks for praying her through the time in the hospital. We sure appreciated knowing so many are praying as the time was extended this course with fever and headaches. She is feeling well today. None of the cultures showed anything so she is on broad spectrum antibiotics at home. She will hopefully get to do her blood work done in Katy this week. Still waiting for a call back from the doctor's office. Lori
